Kaplan Runner Blade Upgrade

One of our clients ran a hydropower plant using Kaplan turbines, but noticed that their blades were underperforming. Luckily, Chesterton had the solution with it’s Kaplan Runner Blade Trunnion Split Seal in their specialist AWC800 material. Over the next four years the customer experienced zero leakage and the blade runners now work at peak efficiency and effectiveness.

Combating Corrosion

With so much water an electrical interaction in the Hydropower industry, there’s bound to be a certain level of corrosion and pressure on the equipment. Reinforced epoxy compounds, such as the Chesterton ARC 858, are perfect for rebuilding and reinforcing equipment.

One of our customers experienced pitting corrosion on one of their gates, stopping them from sealing properly. Experienced Chesterton employees suggested using the ARC 858 to rebuild the corroded areas. The results speak for themselves. For two years now there has been no signs of damage to the equipment, and their gates have been sealing effectively every since.
